We are proud to announce that we received a great report card! As you can see, below, it indicates that HOPE was more effective than the average shelter in the state. It isn’t a competition, but… we are proud of the outcomes:
Measure Rates HOPE Average Length of stay. 43 days 20 days Positive Destination 44.7% 14.43% Recidivism Rate 11.22%* 34.35%
This means that HOPE has engaged people in need for twice as long as the average shelter and that the results were significantly better. HOPE gets people into appropriate housing 3-times the rate of other shelters. HOPE guests who have been appropriately housed are 3-times more likely to stay housed.
*Recidivism Rate of 11.22% is unusually high for HOPE. This was due to an apartment fire that left several previous guests without a home, again. The normal rate is about 5%. So, typically, HOPE guests are 6-times more likely to stay housed. )
HOPE is an effective shelter. We partner with more service providers to achieve powerful results. We help guest obtain all their needed documents and we bring service providers into the shelter for meetings – rather than hoping guests will find an office and the transportation to get there on time. Be proud of the work you support. Share these stats with a friend. Have your friends join our mailing lists (Text HOPESHELTERNEWS to 22828 ). Have your friends Like us on Facebook (HopeShelterPontiac).
Our long-range goal includes increasing our contacts to 10,000. Why? Many believe that about 25% of those who connect with an organization will also support the organization financially. If that is true, we would need 2,500 participants to meet the annual $300,000 in needed private funding. This could be divided into 2,500 monthly shares of $10 each. Some can give half shares; others can give multiple shares. Together, we can all share load of supporting this important work -- and the stellar results -- that HOPE accomplishes each year. As we grow to include a family shelter, so will our needed budget. So, we would need to increase our contacts to 10,000.
Can you help us get to 10,000 contacts? Spread the word to family and friends who might be uplifted by the work of HOPE. They can join by email or as Facebook Likes. Down the road, they may choose to support the work or to introduce us to someone who will.
"It takes a village" to accomplish meaningful work. Some will support in financial ways, some with in-kind donations (meals and items they collect) and others will volunteer their time and expertise (meal servers, carpenters, plumbers, nurses, and many other opportunities). HOPE needs us all.
As the report card (above) indicates, HOPE is accomplishing the work we set out to do. People are finding appropriate housing. You can be very proud of your involvement with HOPE. We are proud of our team: including our staff, volunteers, in-kind donors, and our financial supporters. We are partners in sheltering those in need.
Let’s continue making this meaningful difference, together.
